THIS Saturday – September 8th – a few of the contributors to For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Still Not Enough: Coming of Age, Coming Out, and Coming Home will be at Green in BKLYN.

They’ll be signing books & reading excerpts from this brand newly published book, which includes writers who are African American, Latino, Asian American, British and Jamaican.

Their ages span over five decades from young to old representing all parts of the country and a wide cross-section of occupations including students, published authors, recording artists, reality TV stars, military veterans and more.

The Laundromat Project in partnership with Weeksville Heritage Center is hosting its the 2nd annual Greening the City (formerly Seeding the City) – a day of workshops, demonstrations & art activities focused on environmental awareness & urban beautification.

Greening the City will take place on Saturday, August 4th (rain date: August 5th) from 12pm to 4pm on the grounds of Weeksville Heritage Center (1698 Bergen Street, Brooklyn NY 11213).

Free & open to the general public, Greening the City approaches environmentalism with a down to earth approach – providing folks of all ages the opportunity to connect with artists, farmers & food activists about everyday ways to make fun and affordable eco-friendly choices.

This year’s featured workshops & activities include:

Greening the City aims to increase awareness & provide a forum to make sustainable living a more accessible & equitable practice for all communities.  And with eco-friendly games for the kids, raffles, food from General Greene & Brooklyn Moon, as well as music throughout the day by DJ Manchild Black, this will be a day for the entire family to enjoy!

This program is made possible in part by Brooklyn Arts Council, Soul of Brooklyn & Weeksville Heritage Center.  NYFA’s Immigrant Artist Project is a community partner in this initiative.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center is trying something new and adding a couple of weekday events to their summer e-waste collection schedule.  If you can’t make it to an event, you can drop-off (almost) any time at their E-Waste Warehouse right here in good ol’ Brooklyn.

In addition, the following drop of events are available:

A list of acceptable materials and answers to all of your e-waste questions can be found here.  Everyone who recycles with the LESEC this summer will be entered in a raffle to win a new Macbook Air courtesy of Tekserve and all Zipcar members receive a $15 driving credit.  All events are free of charge and will be held rain or shine.
